Dear Evergreen, you are right. In every quiet corner, I obsess over what others think of me. I want to be someone who is respected in a community, but resides in the shadows. Someone who is seen as a role model, but not a leader. Someone who carries the traditions of that community, but without setting anything in stone like a law. We all need a community where we belong and where everything inside the town walls is coherent. For example, consider how the artisans of a community create cultural artifacts with a certain logical consistency over time. An artifact can be anything like a ceremony, a piece of technology, or a building. You can understand the community by its artifacts just like you can understand a subject by the words and terms used in that subject. But these artifacts are created and destroyed by geopolitical conditions and technological evolution. That's why we can have coherency, but we can never have consistent coherency. We can only have coherency with internally consistent logic at a particular point in time. Maybe people are so intrinsically bound with the time they live in because the artifacts surrounding them, and the logic that relates those artifacts to each other and to circumstances, helps them build their relationships with themselves and others. I wonder whether maybe one day I could be a guide to these cultural artifacts in my community. Further still, I wonder whether I could even carry the traditions of how those artifacts are to be created and destroyed. Would that be a task for kings? What if it was in touch with a naturally ongoing process of evolution? I don't know. This is unrelated to my other posts btw, I just wanted to share.
