This is the William's Everyday Anglish topic. Basically I will post translations or conversions of mostly English texts and sometimes even original works into my personal version of Anglish. If you do not know what Anglish is, you should start here: https://www.reddit.com/r/anglish/comments/9m0pyz/welcome/ and then read this if you want: https://www.reddit.com/r/anglish/comments/6nlm7x/moderator_post_shifts_in_the_underreddit/ So yeah, in my specific case, I just use more Germanic words according to etymology and work with a writing constraint to sometimes bring on a completely new or poetic vibe to various texts of English and show off the ingenuity of various English or Germanic constructions which lie dormant.
My Anglish is actually very different from most people as I generally avoid reviving words at all and aim to create an Anglish that while not perfectly understandable to the everyday man, it shouldn't be so far gone that it is impossible to look up or get a hint at what I am talking about. It makes heavy use of what is already in modern English even to the point of accepting newly made slang. I generally do this for fun and not for any historical accuracy. There is no racist intent either. Just because I remove words of a particular group of people doesn't actually mean I hate that group of people.
Here are the general rules I follow for William's Everyday Anglish -Do not revive words and re-orthographize them from Middle English/Old English -You are allowed to use obsolete and archaic words but make sure that made it to Modern English.
-Use words that have not be touched by any foreign influence except for any language that branches from the Germanic language family via etymology. -Some modern words can be reused for other meanings and purposes as long as it generally retains its original meaning. -Ing is more heavily used to make noun forms of verbs. -You can now freely create ing nouns out of verb particle phrases. Basically something like Soak up > Upsoaking or Put up with > Upwithputting is totally normal and is done often. Regardless I do sometimes break these rules, either by accident or on purpose if basically I find the word "Germanic or Englishy enough". Sometimes I like to do this cipher/relex thing called Weash/Weasish. It's basically like visual/phonetic clothes put on English text to make it look and sound more like a fake West Germanic language. This has absolutely no historical or logical bearing as it's just a visual/phonetic effect. More about it in the spoiler.
Here is the orthography/pronunciation. This is basically how sounds are represented in Weash. I will be using IPA so if you don't know what that is you should learn it.
A = [ɑ~ä] Aa = [ɑ~ä] Au = [aʊ] B = [b] Cg = [t̠ʃ] Ch = [x~χ] D = [d] Dg = [d̠ʒ] E = [ɛ], [ə] (typically in unstressed syllables and el/em/en/er endings.) Ee = [e:] Ey = [e:] (specifically used to replace ee at the end of words) F = [f] G = [g] H = [h] Hw = [ʍ~xw~χw] I = [ɪ] Ie = [i] Ij = [aɪ] J = [j] K = [k] L = [l~ʟ] M = [m] N = [n] O = [ɔ], [o] (specifically at the end of words) Oj = [ɔɪ] Oo = [o] Oy = [ɔɪ] P = [p] R = [ɾ~r] S = [s] Sc = [ʃ] T = [t] U = [ʊ], [u] (specifically at the end of words) Ui = [u] V = [v] W = [w] X = [ks] Y = [i] (specifically used to replace ie at the end of words) Z = [z] Zg = [ʒ] Þ = [θ], [ð]
Now basically, it's a conversion of English to Weash orthography. Here's the list detailing all the switches you need to do. When switched over, you still need to pronounce the letters as Weash letters. This will also require knowledge of IPA. Also you should assume General American for the examples.
Any [æ] sound (ex. bath, yak, trap, ban, tram) = A Any [äɪ~ɐɪ~ʌ̈ɪ] sound (ex. bride, tie, sky, lye) = Ij Any [aʊ] sound (ex. power, ciao, ouch) = Au Any [ɛ] sound (ex. led, instead) = E Any [eɪ] sound (ex. day, reign, lane) = Ee, Ey (if the [eɪ] sound is in the final position.) Any [ɪ̈~ɪ~ə] sound (ex. tip, pink, biscuit, wasted) = I Any [i~ɪi] sound (ex. beam, chic, fleece, happy, money) = Ie, Y (if the [i~ɪi] sound is in the final position.) Any [oʊ~ɔʊ~ʌʊ~o̞] sound (ex. goat, home, toe) = Oo, O (if the [oʊ~ɔʊ~ʌʊ~o̞] sound is in the final position.) Any [ɔɪ~oɪ] sound (ex. boy, coil) = Oy Any [ʌ] sound (ex. cut, runt, flood, what) = U Any [ʊ] sound (ex. look, put, should) = U Any [u̟~ʊu~ʉu~ɵu] sound (ex. loose, moon, doux, chew, tune) = Ui, U (if the [u̟~ʊu~ʉu~ɵu] sound is in the final position.)
A as the [ɑ~ä] sound (ex. father, spa) = A Au as the [ɑ~ä] sound (ex. taut, flaunt, caught) = O Aw as the [ɑ~ä] sound (ex. raw, brawn) = Aa, A (if the word ends in aw. Regardless, Aa can be used in cases where you want to distinguish a word apart.) O as the [ɑ~ä] sound (ex. bother, lot, cot, cloth) = O O as the [ɔ] sound (ex. cloth, cross, nod, stalk) = O Ou as the [ɔ] sound (ex. thought, brought) = O
C as [k] (ex. cat) = K Gh as [f] (ex. tough, rough) = Ff Gh as [g] (ex. ghost, ghoul, ghee) = G Silent Gh (ex. light, freight, ought) = Ch Kn is pronounced as [kn] and not [n]. All Wh's = Hw All silent letters are removed. Double consonants are now single consonants.
There are no r-colored vowels. Instead just pronounce the core vowel and then replace the r-coloring with a [ɾ~r]. Any [ɚ] sound at the end of a word (ex. doctor, doer) = E Ant [ɚ] sound at the beginning/middle of a word (ex. earn, burn, learn) = Aa

The Oversetting Wordbook Basically the Oversetting Wordbook is a dictionary that has each entry focused on a word to replace with suggestions for replacements placed under the entry. Sometimes I will also explain the differences or connotations or give example sentences to help explain or give a feel for the word/construction as well. You should see this dictionary as a guide and the multiple entries as synonyms of each other. Each entry is written in brackets <>. If a word isn't on there, it is very likely that it already meets my etymology criteria for what words are allowed to be used. (Although this thing is far from complete so that statement isn't fully reliable.)

Whoa, those are some pretty cool words some of which I knew already but still cool nonetheless. This is sort of why I like doing this thing, you end up finding some rare gems at the outer rims of the English language. It quite reminds me of this site whose main idea is to talk about rarer words: www.phrontistery.info/

The -lock suffix is a pretty simple but cool word in some cases. en.wiktionary.org/wiki/-lockIt is not productive but exists in wedlock, bridelock, etc. It was definitely useful when I was figuring out a replacement for "farming". There's not a verb for this so you can not use -ing to get that "practice of" feel. Lock is good in those cases where you can't derive from a noun. It's also a nice way to maybe shake up the ever-so-prevalent usage of -ing as well.

WEA The great blue tree. Folktales say that only those with enough guts can make their way to the tree to earn its almighty wisdom. Many have faltered and lost the tree. Some instead have won. But only gods can take on the great might that stirrs within it. Only few have made it to the tree and kept living. Through threatening bergs and plightless drylands. The spellcraftish riddling blue tree is something made of dreams. You must find the tree. Only then, will you earn everlasting life.
Original: The great blue tree. Legends say that only those brave enough can travel to the tree to receive it almighty wisdom. Many have failed to find the tree. Some have succeeded. But only gods can harness the great power that stirrs within it. Only few have made it to the tree and survived. Through treacherous mountains and periless deserts. The magicical mystical blue tree is something made a dreams. You must find the tree. Only then, will you receive eternal life.

"The brooking of Doitch over Dutch mayhaps comes from the weird feeling on how the word fastens on a kind of folk in the Netherlands and yet it also means the more broad "Germanic". Even if I am aware of all the meanings of Dutch, it still, for me, feels weirdish and goes against the understanding of the everyman."

I realized that -fast this could be used as an adjective suffix similar to the usage and meaning of -some (ex. bothersome, bendsome, etc.) but with its own tinge. This is based from the word "steadfast" and other "-fast" words. Deviations could be understood as something "fixed in/to, firmly, fastened to, retaining, resistant, etc." www.thefreedictionary.com/words-that-end-in-fast

Tower of Babel into WEA, Names are not altered Source: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tower_of_Babel (11/5/2018) 1 And the whole earth was of one tongue, and of one speech. 2 And that would go away, as they fared from the east, that they found a flatland in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. 3 And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for stonebonder. 4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a mighty burgh and a keep, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the ground of the whole earth. 5 And the LORD came down to see the burgh and the keep, which the children of men builded. 6 And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one tongue; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be shackled from them, which they have saw in their mind to do. 7 Go to, let us go down, and there befuddle their tongue, that they may not understand one another's speech. 8 So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the ground of all the earth: and they left off to build the burgh. 9 Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there befuddle the tongue of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the ground of all the earth. — The Allstart 11:1–9[10]

Oh cool, you decided to give it a go. Your translations and translations in general really help me figure out what entries need to be added. Here are some words I noticed that would not fit the bill:
Ethic, (from Greek) Can't really find a direct replacement so here are my quick attempts. Rightbehaving, rightdoing, rightness, righteousness
Cross, (from Latin) In this context, I think "between" would work, as in, "to talk between/among one another"
Properly, (from Latin) In this case, I think a simple "well/right/rightly" would do.
Complete, (from Latin) In this case, full or sheer may be best fit. There's actually tons of synonyms for complete so I'll just copy and paste this list from the Anglish Moot so you can decide what would be the best fit:
full, whole, done, over, through, up, in depth, thorough, all-out, downright, flat-out, sheer, stark, stone, straight-out, thorough, utter, out-and-out, skillful, full-standing, thoroughgoing
Otherwise, nice work!

Yeah, the Moot sometimes makes mistakes and/or has disagreements which is why I check personally before hand but hey I'm also imperfect sometimes. Also some guys made a new version of the moot on Miraheze (https://anglish.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_leaf) because I dunno, disagreements? Also, not to mention, the Anglish Moot sometimes does not align with my kind of Anglish. Some words there have actually gone through some non-Germanic languages but has their origins as Germanic. Example: the word war originates from Proto Germanic werrō but it went through French before it went to English which (typically) I don't allow. Admittedly, this is a weird restriction but I decided to role with it to add to the challenge. But I don't mind breaking this rule every now and then (I already have actually, the words stuff/plot have been allowed.) Edit: Oh wait, the Moot recognizes this. Still, many Anglishers accept war but it depends on your Anglish.
